A research-oriented review of multiple adjunct modalities in the dental hygiene scope of practice

As a former hygienist, the practice of clinical dental hygiene is near and dear to Dr. Paris’ heart. With the wealth of adjunct modalities in hygiene practice, it can be overwhelming to keep it all straight and know what really works and what doesn’t.

Dr. Paris will review a plethora of current evidence-based information regarding treatment modalities during this three-hour course. The presentation will include a review of laser pocket disinfection, local chemotherapeutic agent administration, biofilm removal, and effectiveness of certain home-care regimens. In addition, Dr. Paris will discuss the different modalities clinically used for caries detection.

What I will learn?

  • Comprehend indications, contraindications, and best practices for local chemotherapeutic administration.
  • Identify indications for use and effectiveness for chlorhexidine, chlorine dioxide, and additional patient home-care regimens including oral systemic antibiotics.
  • Comprehend indications, contraindications, and best practices for the use of the diode laser in clinical dental hygiene practice.
